A Pair of Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
This incident caused the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people were injured by a substance believed to be pepper spray, according to police.

A 24-year-old man, was arrested in the Lambeth area on suspicion of robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. They both are still being held, the force said.

The arrests follow an investigation into an attack at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the incident, two women were robbed of their suitcases after getting out of a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was one of the those hurt during the incident. A total of five individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment and were later discharged.

Officers detained a 31-year-old man on suspicion of theft and assault near the location. He was subsequently released pending further inquiries as the investigation proceeds.

Police were called at approximately 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding several people injured by an irritating chemical believed to be an irritant spray.

The attack - an event that authorities stated was a standalone incident and not considered terrorism - caused train delays and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park briefly.
